Ohio State Reinstates Coach Urban Meyer, AD Gene Smith Resigns

In a statement today, Ohio State University said that Urban Meyer will be reinstated as the coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes as Gene Smith resigns. The investigation concluded, that Urban Meyer followed the proper reporting protocol by informing Gene Smith of the alleged abuse of Courtney Smith by Ohio State’s wide receiver coach Zack Smith. Representatives of the University stated that “It became clear during the investigation that Athletic Director Gene Smith knew of the allegations against Zack Smith in 2015 and instructed Urban Meyer to tell Zack Smith he would be fired if any allegations proved to be true.” Further, the University also suggested that Urban Meyer acted swiftly in May of 2018 by firing Zack Smith upon learning of allegations of trespassing. Gene Smith has refused to comment on the findings of the investigation but has acknowledged his resignation.
The terms of Gene Smith’s separation agreement remain confidential.
