Raiders trade Khalil Mack to Green Bay Packers

The Oakland Raiders Have agreed to trade there All Pro Bowl defensive edge rusher to the Green Bay Packer for Clay Matthews, who is entering the final year of his contract, and 2019 first-round and a third round pick. The Raiders would be getting plenty in return: Two top picks next year and a proven contributor this year.
Including one of the first-round picks in return for one of the two or three best edge rushers in the NFL is the easy part of the deal.
Although the Packers are in fine shape to negotiate a contract extension for Mack in 2019 and beyond, given the salaries Green Bay has coming off the cap next season, Gutekunst and vice president Russ Ball would still have to find a way to fit Mack’s $13.8 million salary in 2018 under the cap. And that’ll take some work.
Obviously, the relationship between Gutekunst and Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie helped facilitate a deal. The two are old friends from the scouting ranks in Green Bay.
