The New Jersey Saltwater and Fresh Water Fishing planning committee has put an immediate cease and desist on all fresh and salt water fishing activities beginning on September 1, 2018. They are in the process of doing a fish census and cannot obtain accurate numbers as they have counted fish which were caught skewing the census numbers. The $4 million dollar census budget is starting to go ten percent higher than anticipated due to the recreation fishermen catching and eating their fish. To keep the costs below the new $4.4 million dollar budget this new regulation is being enacted until all fish are counted between the New York and Delaware fishing perimeters and not more than 2 miles out from the shore line. If caught fishing between September 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018 you could stand to loose your fishing privileges for 5 years with fines of not more than $1,200 per the new regulations enacted on August 1, 2018. If caught for a second violation you could face fines up to $4,500 and not more than 2 months in jail. If you see the census takers swimming around and counting the fish, please do not approach them as they are trying to complete this crucial state approved census.
