With the lack of volunteer coverage in the community, hundreds of volunteer Emergency Ambulance Squads are struggling to stay a float. Ocean Gate First Aid Squad in Ocean County, NJ is one of the handful of those squads bearing low manpower. “The borough of Ocean Gate will take steps moving forward to provide our residence with adequate coverage this small town needs and deserves. We have struggled for many years and we cannot let it continue.” Says Paul Kennedy, Mayor of Ocean Gate. “We [the borough] have been in contact with our county EMS and Emergency management coordinators and arranging mutual aid coverage and paid coverage as well.

The expected policy changes are Bayville EMS and Berkeley Township EMS, which are comprised of paid staff. “We will support Ocean Gates residents with Emergency Medical Services whenever needed. Care must come first and be our top priority amongst everything else” says Carmen Amato, Mayor of Berkeley Township.

Ocean Gate First Aid Squad is expected to shut its doors late 2018 early 2019. This is dependent on the Borough of Business and Licensing Services of New Jersey to void their Incorporation certificate or for the Squad to disband themselves, which ever comes first.
