Cathy Elliott McDuffie, 53, of Bear Creek, NC was arrested earlier today after having been found to be running a bar and brothel out of her home. Chatham County Sheriff, Mike Roberson, said that it was a long-running investigation that led to the arrest.
"This is the largest bust of this kind in the County's history."
Federal and NC State Bureaus of Investigation assisted with the investigation and arrest.
Multiple State charges are pending at this time including prostitution, human trafficking, multiple drug and drug paraphernalia charges, several firearms offences, selling alcohol without a license, and underage alcohol consumption. Federal charges of tax evasion, wire fraud, and mail tampering are also pending.
"I would like to thank our Deputies and those Agencies we worked with in order to bring about this arrest," said Sheriff Roberson.
Sheriff Roberson declined to comment on any on-going possible investigations. "I will only say that where there's smoke, there's fire."
Mrs. McDuffie is being held on a $5 Million bond in the Chatham County jail and is expected to be arraigned early next week.
