EPIC GAMES has been making some epic waves with their now viral game, Fortnite. If you haven't heard about Fortnite, please consider relocating your self to civilization. Fortnite is the Free-To-Play, multiplatform game by EPIC GAMES that has taken the world by storm.

The gist. You can either participate in an apocalyptic survival game called Save the World where you and your team must survive the zombie apocalypse. This was the original format for this game and it was the inspiration for the name too. As you and your team assemble, you must harvest materials, collect weapons, scrounge for parts, to create buildings, forts and traps to help you stave off your eminent death! Save the World has a decent following but the game mode that has everyone emoting in their daily lives is Battle Royale.

In Battle Royale, you take the characters from Save the World, and you throw the onto an island and it is a free for all! 100 players can compete, simultaneously, in a winner take all, last man standing battle, where you can play solo or in a four man squad. You still need to harvest materials if you want to build a fort and you still need to scrounge for weapons. The great equalizer in this game mode is an ever shrinking storm that closes in over the island and around the players. A brilliant way to promote game play and to also limit the playing time given this semi-open world format. EPIC games, Talliah Brunnen, game developer and story boarder says, "We knew we had a winner on our hands when the game broke through demographic projections. We initially seen this game would succeed in the millennial age range, but has since found a fan base with children as young as 5 years old and adults 40 years old and older. It is the first Video game to do so, on such an international level." Brunnen goes on to report that over 78 million downloads were recorded for their latest continuation in what is now their 6th season of game play.

This is just the moving pieces. The tournament and major league gaming potential has yet to be fully tapped! EPIC already sponsored a multi-million dollar tournament that had their greatest influencers battling it out in tournament style game play! But that was just the beginning. Now, there are weekly tournaments that anyone, yes anyone can participate in! So it doesn't matter if you're 5 or 50, you can participate in these tournaments for a chance at $125,000 prize purse! IT also doesn't matter where you are from! Even if you're in Hawai'i! This is where we catch up with one of the fastest up-and-coming streamers, MrDoubleKO.

Mr. Double, A.K.A. Kanoho Kealohanui-alii Koko, has been playing fornite since their 4th season. Although he admits that, "the learning curve is not curved at all, it's more like a wall." Mr. Double proves what Brunnen was acclaiming, as Mr. Double turned 40 this year and plays the game at least 3 hours a week. But "Playing" is subjective. "I only play for the rankings, hoping for a chance at a tournament spot.", says Koko and this season, he has earned his spot. Qualifying over the last three weeks, with the required game play, eliminations and wins, Mr. Double is now one of 25,000 players, vying for a chance to cash out on the $125,000 EPIC prize.

"It's a great chance for us older gamers to get back into the mix. It takes reflexes, which get slower with age, and a whole lot of strategy. The greatest advantage I have is my squadmates. We game together so we know what we are thinking and can move fluidly. I'm sure this is the same for our competition, but it could be the edge we need." We are all over 40 years old and we are entering the tournament under the same name as our Twitch Stream "Geriatric Gamers" or GG for short. Our community and followers are the best there is. They totally support us and our attempt at staying relevant in the gaming world."

So we asked Mr. Double, who has 515 wins, what are three tips you could give to newcomers to the Fortnite family. "Number one, don't go for the win, you'll find your self camping out, trying to survive and get lucky at the end. This used to work, but with the introduction of the Playground Mode, you can actually practice and hone your skills. On that note, number 2, get better. Practice building first and foremost. Your battle instincts will kick in for the gunplay part of the game, so build build build. Have a buddy to buildbattle against. You can survive just by building alone. And 3rd, get the timing down for everything. Every action takes a certain amount of time. Time is your true enemy in this game. From rate of fire for different guns, different reload times, and actions, all have a distinct time quality, know that and you're half way there."
