In a new study published in "The Annals of Veterinarian Medicine" researchers at The Ohio State University have determined that labradors cohabitating in homes with cats have shortened lifespans.

The researchers found that, on average, the lifespan of a labrador retriever was shortened by as much as 15 months when cohabitating with one feline and by as much as 50 months when cohabitating with 3 or more felines. The cause of the shortened lifespan was not immediately apparent but researchers speculate it may have to do with decreased respiratory function caused by feline hypersensitivity.

They go on to say more study is needed, and in the meantime owners of both Labradors and cats can apply to participate in an ongoing study by contacting K. F. Powers at The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
