Jiang Shu Quan, a Chinese man born in Shanghai, has passed away aged 562. He claims to have been born in 1893, however his birth certificate suggests he was born sometime in 1857.

He was born in Shanghai. He married Ngoh Hwan in 1869, and had 18 children with her. She died aged 89 in 1947. He outlived all his children, grandchildren and some great-grandchildren.

He never applied for the Guinness Book Of World Records due to his inability to write, read or speak after suffering dementia and severe amnesia in the late 1980s.

When he was asked how he lives a long life during a 1984 interview he replied with “I bathe in fish water, drink salt water and only eat salted fish skin, fried.”

He married again in 1977 to 80 year old La Huan who died in 2003 aged 103.

On 13 August, he was found unresponsive in the streets of Shanghai. Police and medics were called to the scene and he was rushed to hospital. On 14 August, he was pronounced dead.

His death was not announced until 19 August, when his death was confirmed.

His autopsy is still ongoing. Initial diagnosis suggests internal rupture from disintegrating organs.
