The grade requirement of an 80 has now been changed to a 70 for BlendED classes at Marcus High School. This rule has prevented students from being able to manage their own time for years now.

The Lewisville Indepent School District website—https://www.lisd.net/domain/444—promises a flexible learning environment, more time in the school day to practice for an activity or sport, a chance to develop future-ready skills, and opportunities for self-directed learning. All of these benefits were taken away from students by simply getting a C on a test or missing a homework assignment.

“I think it should be up to the students to decide if they need the extra help or not. It’s unfair for it to be a requirement to go to class on blended days when you are still passing the class” said a student in Mr.Poes BlendED English class. Not attending class if students have below an 80 results in being marked as absent.

“I did bad on a test once and it brought my grade down to a 74. I stayed on track and did all my work for weeks but I wasn’t able to raise my grade up to an 80 because they were minor grades and we didn’t have any upcoming tests. I had to stay in class without needing the extra help or time.” Says Marcus HS graduate and college student Aliyah.

This rule being lowered to a 70 makes this class more flexible, allowing students to be more independent and manage their own time.
