Controversy erupts as 202 opens-Name change suggested

From its conception the South Mountain 202 freeway has been shrouded in controversy. And its opening on Saturday Dec 21 was no exception. Ahwatukee residents reactions were mixed. Local Tukeean Piper Chapman commented "I love how fast I can get to Chandler Fashion Mall now". But others are complaining about the constant drum of noise. A press conference is scheduled at the Amadio Peach farm in Laveen today. The owner Eric Amadio is formally proposing a name change for the already named "Ed Pastor Freeway". In a interview he did earlier in the week Mr Amadio is going to petition the state to change away from the Ed Pastor Freeway to the more appropriate "LaTukee Pieway". "I mean at least half of that traffic is going to be people from Chandler and Ahwatukee jumping on the 202 to come get pies and produce from us here at the farm anyway". Mayor Vardhan of Ahwatukee has signaled his support for such a change. "I mean have you had their pies?? It just makes sense".
