Tony Thurmond, Superintendent of Public Instruction and Governor Gavin Newsom (California) has announced today that all California students will need to repeat the current grade next year, including preschool-aged children. "Due to extreme loss of class time, including educational field trips, there is just no time for the students to catch up on lost work", he says. "They will fall too far behind government standards with literacy and math if they do not spend the time on these units".
This comes at a time when our students have already been dealt many difficult blows after recent school cancellations and self-isolation advisements have left them at home with their families for the past 2.5 weeks.
School grade repeats will include pre-school and kindergarten-aged children, so as to keep the current grades together, up to grade 12 students. "We anticipate that having all students repeat this current school grade will give them the tools to excel as they move forward in their education". Haha! Just Kidding, you've been pranked!
