Following a tip off by a family member, Jurors found jowariyha Shezhadi aged 20, guilty of attempting to force a marriage and two counts of child cruelty at an earlier hearing. Having studied at the university of Bradford, she had coerced and controlled a fellow student who had feared for her health and well being through her time at the university. She described Miss Shezhadi as a ‘controlling person who always kept her eyes on her’. After three years of intolerable abuse, Miss Shezhadi then attempted to force the victim into a marriage with her brother.
Her mother, aged 43, was also found guilty of one count. Defence counsel for Miss Shezhadi, Mr Hasan Khan stated that ‘she is a well educated and polite young lady with a future ahead of her. She did not intend to control the young lady, but feels that she had only inclined her towards the marriage. It is understandable that the victim may have taken this the wrong way. She is highly apologetically and did not intend to the hurt the victim in any way”. She now waits to be sentenced in respect of both offences.
