A concern has been sweeping the nation. Is the government making terrible decisions? Has COVID-19 mutated again? Are the Australian fires spreading to other countries? Are aliens coming to Earth? Has the death hornet population increased by a large number? Could said “Star Destroyer” or “Death Star” come to Earth? Or could the armageddon just be starting? Not at all. Instead, it is a very trivial thing. Prodigy Math Game is shutting down, and parents and kids all around are angry.

Known as one of the most popular math games out there, Prodigy Math Game is (or was) a MMORPG where the player plays as a wizard, casting spells and going on quests to pursue the villainous Puppet Master. Though not very active on updates on the storyline, they always blow people away with new content. Above is gameplay of the game itself, as of the time right now.

However, all good things come to an end. Due to issues explained later, the game has shut down. Since it is still in development, we asked the developers: why?

Executive developer John Smith has spoke into this. “COVID-19 has made it harder to work on updates.” he says, “and the development team can’t come together, we can’t ask kids which design of any character appeals to them most, and there are too many loose ends before we can finish the first story and introduce a new villain. To put it all in a nutshell, we have too many updates to work on at once.”

The shutdown of the game has also led to major concerns. Many parents used the application to distract kids while also to teach them math. Meanwhile, kids and Prodigy youtubers are distraught as their favorite game has been demolished. To add salt to the wound, many have started protests, saying things like, “We Need Prodigy” and “You Ruined Everything”. A policeman who remains anonymous admits, “There were so many people, the entire police squadron couldn’t hold them down. Heaven knows what they have done now.”

Currently, “memberships” have been refunded and “Epics” figures have been given away as memoirs. However, there still may be hope. An anonymous developer says, “Smith says he’ll make things right, but I don’t know if that means bringing it back. For now, stay optimistic.”
