Two Kingston couples have discovered a filing error at the family court house has resulted in their divorces are not being officially recognized. John Sturge and his fiancé Angel Roomsky went to city hall last week to obtain a marriage license for their upcoming marriage only to discover that John's previous divorce hadn't been finalized in 2019 and he was still legally married to his "ex-wife". Clerks from Kingston's family court immediately investigated and verified that John is in fact still married to his previous wife. Upon further investigation it was discovered that a box of divorce proceedings were put in the judges chambers for final approval and misplaced before the city clerk had a chance to input it into the provinces computer data base. Therefore, dozens of couples received divorce certificates that were never input between October and December of 2019. Kingston's Family Courthouse is asking anyone whose divorce was finalized to call their office to ensure their paperwork was not part of this error.
