The Clare man is not only the first Banner man to conquer Everest, he is also the first man to ride every single Sherpa from Nepal on his mammoth voyage to the top.
Altitude sickness was never a worry for Jonny Butts. "Listen, I only went over because I heard the lads had some stamina carrying loads of muck."
On the descent, Butts actually rode a Nepalese man bareback all the way to base camp. Another first for any Banner man.
