Chris Chibnall, director and screenwriter of "Doctor Who" announced this morning that the series, audio scenarios and goodies relating to "Doctor Who" will no longer be produced. A disappointment for the large number of international fans.
On January 31, 2020, England decided to leave the European Union thus withdrawing the license to other countries to broadcast the series.Countries purchasing these licenses allowed the BBC to monetize their production, but that is no longer the case today.
The production of season 13 of "Doctor Who" could not be completed, thus canceling the broadcast scheduled for the end of 2021.
The audio scripts written by the "Big Finish" company were also canceled because the BBC branch of the series could no longer pay the actors dubbing the characters.
Regarding the goodies (soft toys, key rings, etc.), their sales being insufficient, the factories manufacturing them were sold to other companies using them to manufacture, henceforth, their own objects.
The director of the BBC doesn't wish to give funds to this series which he considers "behind its time". He thinks that there is no more potential in it and that its removal is better.
"Doctor Who" will have touched many fans, changing, sometimes, their mentality. It's also a big disappointment for actress Jodie Whittaker, who embodies what is the last Doctor. This is how "Doctor Who" died.
