Once dubbed "The poor man's Vette" or "The baby Vette", the classic Opel GT has surpassed it's "daddy" as the most popular two seat classic sports car in the latest popularity poll. The Opel GT, manufactured by General Motors German Opel division between 1968 and 1973, was famous for it's sleek lines and sporty looks. The GT was actually designed and built before it's larger doppelganger, the C-3 Corvette. General Motors held off on releasing the Opel GT by one year so that the C-3 would make it to the US market first. General Motors knew that if the GT was first to market then the C-3 would be a complete loss. As it turned out, the GT would go one to make a name for itself and eventually GM knew they had to pull the plug on it or else the Corvette would be surpassed as the flagship of the corporation. So in 1974 GM made the decision to stop the GT tital wave and thus the Corvette survived.
