Young Brazilians finish first in the 470 sailing world championship in Long Beach. Eight waterings were performed with one discard. The Brazilians were tied with the Americans Tod Burnes and Gary Feldman until the last race when in the last contravention they shot in the lead due to a gross mistake of the Americans. Carlos Andre (helmsman) and Marcus Donnici Sion (proeiro), 17 and 16 years old respectively, were crowned champions and qualified for the 1994 Olympic Games.
