Russian hackers target American-based services Discord, Spotify, Youtube, and others

On March 8, 2022, Discord, Spotify, Youtube, Amazon, and others' servers went down, almost simultaneously. The reason? A prominent Russian hacking group, dubbed Русский альянс (The Russian Alliance) has claimed responsibility. Many companies, like Paypal, Roblox, and Airbnb have pulled service from Russia, citing the recent war between the country and Ukraine. Because of this, hacking groups from both Ukraine and Russia have been attacking their respective counterparts, with the most recent being the Russian government website attack by German hackers, taking the Russian government website for close to 4 hours. Banking websites in Canada and Sweden were targets as well, with Scotiabank, a Canadian banking service, getting hit with numerous DDoS attacks, mainly from Russia and Belarus. A Discord spokesperson reached out to PYF staff, saying that Discord "works hard to give the user a great online experience." Twitter and YouTube declined to comment.
