Authorities have been alerted to young men staying in their parents' basement, only to come out for food and drink. One area that is especially having this problem is Fairfax County. According to the Department of Labor, the hikkikomori rate in Fairfax, VA has risen from 1.3 to 8.5 from 2010 to 2018. Hikkikomoris first originated in Japan, but Asian-American men have been adopting this anti-social behavior in hopes of finding their digital waifu. Unfortunately, this trend is likely to continue rather than be reversed, as Japan continues to spread its sphere of influence through the surburbs of Virginia.
